ALEXANDRIA, VA — Registration is now open for the 34th Annual Erg Sprints Indoor Rowing competition, which will take place 99 days from today, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

Competition will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Gerry Bertier gymnasium at the famed high school, with doors opening at 7:00 a.m. for competitors. This year’s events will include 20 and 30 minute rows, 500, 1000 and 2000 meter races, along with the marathon and half marathon competitions. Events for adaptive rowers will also be held. Returning this year will be the ever popular double and quadruple slide events, as well as numerous relays. Even kids and coxswains can compete.

“We are looking forward to another great day of racing at T.C. Williams,” stated Erg Sprints Director Lisa Zickar. “We have a lot of planning to do between now and then, but we have a great team in place who, through the years, have help turn the Erg Sprints into a truly world class event. Hosting the inaugural World Rowing Indoor Championships this past February was a wonderful opportunity that helped cement our reputation as one of the premier competitions for athletes not only from around America, but from around the globe, as well. We look forward to continuing that tradition in 2019, and welcome those who are planning to compete in the event to begin registering now.”

According to Zickar, athletes planning to compete in the 2019 Erg Sprints can register for the event at Regatta Central by clicking here.

First held in 1986, the Erg Sprints have grown to become the second largest indoor rowing competition in the world, and the largest event of its kind for juniors. The day-long event typically features over 1,700 athletes competing on 140 ergometers that are set up on the race floor inside the Gerry Bertier Gymnasium. The athletes have ranged in ages from under 10 to over 70, and have included some of the top high school, club and collegiate rowers in the country and the world.
